Let’s be honest. Half of the reason we give our Pugs treats is the joy it brings us as owners. Am I right? 🙂
And after all, how could you resist eyes like that…
Let’s be honest. Most dog treats are junk food for dogs.
Why is this?
There are two main reasons:
1. Just like people, dogs love messes! Fat, salt and sugar taste great and keep us coming back for more.
2. Grains, fat and other fillers are cheaper for dog treat manufacturers and therefore give the impression that you are getting more for your money. The package may say “chicken recipe,” but chances are there is very little chicken in the product.
The trend towards fewer ingredients
Fortunately, there is a huge movement towards treats with fewer ingredients. And there’s one ingredient both humans and pups can agree on: pure meat!
The freeze-dried raw craze
We’ve written about the recent rise in popularity of freeze-dried treats. In summary, many raw freeze-dried treats contain only one ingredient. Additionally, the freeze-drying process itself is a much better way to preserve food, as no artificial chemicals are required to make the process work. The result is a meat product that still contains 98% of the nutrients it had before freeze-drying.
If you haven’t tried freeze-dried raw treats yet, we highly recommend giving them a try.
Based on our research over the past few months into raw freeze-dried, iHeartDogs recently launched our very own Project Paws™ line of freeze-dried dog treats. As with all our products, every purchase supports animal shelters. Each individual package contains 14 healthy meals for shelter or rescue dogs!
Don’t just take it from us though, do your own research on freeze-dried raw treats. Most importantly, know what goes into your pug’s body, and give him the best! Their lives are too short enough, and we think they deserve it!
